Delivered by expert users of the data, this online training course will provide new users with insight into the content of the National Pupil Database (NPD) and a number of the administrative datasets of which it forms a key part: Longitudinal Education Outcomes (LEO), Grading and Admissions Data England (GRADE) and Growing Up In England (GUiE).
In Session 1, we will provide a high-level overview of each of these datasets, and showcase some of the research questions that can be addressed using this data. For example, we will hear how researchers have been using the NPD to understand how schools can diversify their intakes; what new insights we can obtain about young people’s education and labour market trajectories and how they vary across groups from LEO; and about the magnitude and drivers of gender gaps in teacher assessments and how this varies across subjects using GRADE.
In Session 2, we will provide a more detailed overview of the application process associated with each of these datasets and in the optional third session participants will have the opportunity to book short one-to-one appointments to discuss questions relating to their own research questions or data applications. There will also be plenty of opportunities to ask questions in earlier sessions too.
