About this event

Come and join this Introduction to egg tempera painting. If you like watercolour but want to use more vibrant pigments, or if you enjoy using oils but would like to use less toxic solvents, this could be for you. Using only egg yolk, water and pure pigments, we will explore the basics of colour mixing, building layers and glazing. I have wanted to learn about egg tempera for while and now I have started experimenting with it, I would love to explore it further in a small group.

Tempera painting has been found on early Egyptian sarchophagus decorations and was the main method of painting until after 1500 when it was superseded by oil painting. Tempera paintings are very long-lasting, and examples from the first century AD still exist.

We will start with some colour mixing and then develop our own sea/sky scape painting. Bring some photos with you that you would like to paint from.

Suitable for people with some prior experience of painting this is good chance to try out egg tempera in a fun and friendly atmosphere.
