About this event

  • Event lasts 23 hours 59 minutes

If you want to climb indoors and learn the basics so you can climb unsupervised at your local wall this session will give you and your climbing partner everything you need to know to register and climb un-aided at your local wall.

During the session I'll teach you how to use a harness and secure yourself to the ropes that are in situ at climbing walls. I show you how to 'belay' your climbing partner to protect them from a fall. I'll provide the equipment necessary for you to climb for the session.

The cost is for 2 people to climb together. The date is arranged to suit so please ignore the date quoted as we will arrange a mutually convenient date.

Who's this session for?

This session is aimed at people who are new to climbing or need to refresh the basics so they can register and safely climb without supervision at a climbing wall. At the end of the session you and your climbing partner should be in a position to climb independently at a wall.

What do I need?

You just need to bring yourself and suitable clothing and footwear for a gym environment - tracksuits and trainers are ideal. If you have climbing kit already, you can bring it along.

Where do we go?

I'll meet you and run this session at one of the local walls in South Manchester.

How do climbing walls work?

Traditional climbing walls allow you to pay an entry fee (usually around £10) and then climb independently for as long as you like. Many run social nights in case you don't have a regular partner as well as 'auto belays' so you can climb alone. In oder to climb independently, you need to be competent and the walls will check this. My sesion allows you to pick up the basics so you can start your climbing journey.....

Why Climb?

Climbing combines mental agility with a physical workout. A set pattern of holds on the wall form the 'route' and you'll need to work this out and where to put your hands and feet in relation to one another to get to the top.

Physically, rock climbing builds core strength and improves flexibility. It gives a cardio and strength building workout in one go and works a range of muscles groups including abs, obliques, biceps, traps, delts, quads, lats and calves.

If you workout lots and want something new to add to your routine, if you want to learn to climb to progress to the outdoors and major mountain ranges, or if you simply want to experience the thrill of the bird's eye view, this session will get your climbing career off the ground.
