Introduction to Line and Wash Painting

Join International Artist Linda Hollingshead, well known for her friendly, inspirational and enjoyable courses and workshops to be introduced to Line and Wash.

This enjoyable relaxed style of painting combines drawing and sketching with pens, with the addition of colour using inks and watercolour washes. Discover how by using waterproof pens and watercolour wash, you can soon capture the likeness of a subject and create expressive and loose sketches and paintings.

Linda guides you through a variety of techniques, tools and the materials to use. Interactive easy exercises will give you a step-by-step introduction to how best to use a pen as a drawing tool and how liquid inks and watercolour can be used to create different effects. Using photographs, we will cover a range of subjects to give you the chance to practice the techniques.

The afternoon’s focus is on gaining confidence with these techniques and best practice. Using simple subjects and photos to follow steps to create results to be proud of.

Participants will be shown demonstrations and have guided one to one help and advice with opportunities for Q&A’s to achieve best results. There will be plenty of time to practice Line and Wash at your own pace.

The round up session suggests ideas and ways going forward to continue your creative practice.

The Craft House was established in 2016 in Saltaire by April Chamberlain, who continues to manage the business. Having started in Saltaire, The Craft House is now run from new, larger, premises at 109-111 Main Street, Bingley. We have a lovely ground floor cafe and welcoming workshop spaces on the first floor (reached by stairs with two handrails). We offer a vibrant programme of art, craft and textile workshops and courses for adults, enabling you to develop existing skills as well as try new activities. Working closely with a team of talented artist/maker tutors, we provide expertly-run classes in a friendly and supportive atmosphere. We cater for a range of skill levels, from first-time participants to people with existing skills (including other professional artists and makers looking to develop their techniques). Our emphasis is on encouraging creativity and enjoyment whilst passing on key skills. We also cater for private parties and events - please telephone us or call into the cafe to discuss. Please note that all our events are subject to us achieving minimum booking requirements, as we need to ensure they are commercially viable for our tutors - if we have to cancel an event, we will refund your ticket and give you as much notice as possible.
