Thanks to the incredible food cooked by Raj & his family, we are able to tempt the best jazzers in the country to Sitara on a Monday night for a night of tasty jazz and delicious curry.

Chef-owner (& jazz fanatic!) Raj has won The Curry Chef Of The Year award.

The Sitara is a tiny family restaurant with fewer than 40 seats and is often No.1 on TripAdvisor out of 21,272 London restaurants... NB at the time of writing they have sunk to 7th place...DISGRACEFUL!

Jonny Gee's Jazz Trio & all of our featured artists perform regularly at London's top jazz venues (including headlining at Ronnie Scotts, The Jazz Cafe, The 606 Club, The Vortex, Nightjar and other jazz clubs) and most are well-known recording artists with albums played on BBC Radio 2, Radio 3 and JazzFM.

Featured artists include:

Vibes: BLUE NOTE vibes legend Orphy Robinson MBE

Vocals: Anita Wardell, Lily Dior & Karen Lane

Trumpet: Sid Gauld (Incognito), Shanti Jayasinha (Buena Vista Social Club / Brand New Heavies), Mark Armstrong (NYJO Director)

Sax: Dave Lewis (1up)& Ronnie Scotts host Alex Garnett

Guitar: Jim Mullen (Average White Band / Richard Niles) & Carl Orr (Sting)

Piano: David Oliver (Mamas Gun) & Daniel Hewson (Groove Armada / Madonna)

Drums: Andrea Trillo (Herbie Hancock) & Jimmy Norden (BAFTA award winner: In The Heights)

& on double bass our musical director:

Jonny Gee (Ravi Shankar, King Salsa, Cleo Laine, Antonio Forcione, The Jazzberries)

We love these events and keep the price as low as possible to cover the feast of food & music ... if you can bring cash for your drinks, that is always appreciated.

CASH: use it or lose it!

*Please arrive around 6:30pm

Frequently asked questions

Can I pay by card?

Yes! After booking your jazz ticket here (£25), you can pay the balance (£25) by card, or get a £5 discount if you pay the balance in cash on arrival.

Does Sitara serve alcohol?

Yes! Sitara is fully licensed and serves a selection of wines, spirits and Indian beers.

Can I just turn up on the night?

Since starting the jazz series in 2016 our Jazz&Curry events have sold out every month....but sometimes there are cancellations. If it is showing as sold out, please send an SMS or WhatsApp to Jonny Gee on 07976287795 to check.

Does Sitara cater for my diet? (Vegan, veggie, allergies, intolerances)

Yes: please add this as a note when you book. [We can deal with it on the night if you forget, but there may be a small extra charge if we don't know in advance]

What kind of jazz is it?

Raj -- chef/owner & winner of Curry Chef of the Year -- is a jazz fanatic. He likes swing, latin jazz and high energy bebop...so that is what you'll get! Our artists perform regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Jazz Cafe & The 606 Club, etc...they come to Sitara for the incredible food & intimate vibe.

Can I park nearby?

Yes: single yellow lines & resident's parking is free from 6:30pm. NB Sitara is lass than 1 minute from Archway tube & 3 minutes from Upper Holloway Overground.

How loud will it be?

Not too loud - but NOT background music! Sitara is a tiny place...maximum 40 people...so the jazz quartet fills the room with sound. It is breathtaking! We ask the audience to talk as much as they like during breaks, but to respect the artistry by keeping conversation to a minimum during the show.

Is there wheelchair access?

Yes. If you are able to notify us in advance it will help us with table layout, but we can manage if you forget.

Who is playing?

Double bassist Jonny Gee of Purring Records runs the jazz for us. We have had many world class artists perform here: BLUE NOTE vibes legend Orphy Robinson MBE, Aussie jazz vocalist Anita Wardell, Ronnie Scotts host saxophonist Alex Garnett, NYJO director trumpeter Mark Armstrong, etc...

I sing/play jazz...can I join in?

Unless you are a pro AND this is arranged ahead of time, it is very unlikely ... but previous artists & invited pro-jazzer colleagues of band-members have been known to get a blow + a free meal...no promises though!!! [NB we are considering hosting jam sessions ... speak to Jonny Gee 07976287795]

How spicy is the food?

Everything is cooked from scratch in our open-view kitchen. We can do very mild curry on request but generally the food is what we think of as medium-spicy-but-NOT-super hot (unlike the jazz!) NB-If you want a stupidly hot vindaloo Raj will be thrilled to tell you where to go in no uncertain terms.
