Would you like to discover more about the rich variety of trees and other plants in Highbury and Kings Heath Parks? With thanks to the Thrive Charity and Friends of Kings Heath and Highbury Parks, we are offering a leisurely walk to take a closer look at the history and horticultural gems these parks have to offer. This special horticultural themed event includes a walk round both parks identifying some of the remarkable trees planted over the years and a tour of the Thrive gardens previously known as the TV gardens. The morning will start with a tour of Kings Heath park to admire the variety of trees which make up the landscape ranging from Medlars to Mulberries, Snake Bark to Dog Wood and many more. We then take a guided tour of the Thrive gardens including a history of the park and the gardening activities in the small gardens area. After a lunch/snack break at the Cartland Cafe, we’ll extend the walk to Highbury Park which is designed on a grander scale with ornamental features, an arboretum and orchard and a focus on wildlife. Walk Distance approximately 3 miles, mostly flat with good paths but there may be muddy sections in the woodlands.
Bookings for this walk will close at 06.00 on Wednesday 21 May. After this, please email bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com to enquire about any late availability for the walk.
====================================================
If you later find that you are unable to join us it would be helpful if you let us know by sending an email to bhamramblersenquiries@gmail.com - this will be passed on to the walk leader and will prevent any delay to the start of the walk should the leader be waiting for you. Please note that some walks have a waiting list so tickets are NOT TRANSFERABLE; if you are unable to join us then please cancel your place to free it up for someone who may be on the waiting list rather than passing it to someone else.
