Event Description:

Let's Walk - Banbury

11.30am Saturday 3rd May 2025 Duration: 2 - 2.5 hours

Start point: Meet outside Whately Hall Hotel, Horsefair, Banbury OX16 0AN. 11.15am for 11:30 set off ///slim.skills.front

End point: Banbury Lock 29.

The walk, run by Canal & River Trust, will be led by volunteer walk leaders who are full of interesting information about the local area.

Please join us for a fun leisurely walk along the canal. You'll learn a lot and meet new people!

A short walk taking in an urban area of the Oxford canal and leading out into the more rural setting as the canal heads northwards out of Banbury town centre.

We will start in Banbury town, pass the historic Tooleys Boatyard (one of the oldest surviving drydocks on the canal network) before walking along a section of the Oxford Canal and the River Cherwell.

At the end of the walk we can enjoy refreshments in the Canalside cafe or Lock 29 street food venue. There is also the opportunity to visit Banbury Museum or Tooleys Boatyard museum to find out more about the canal history.

The great thing about walking is that you do not need any fancy equipment. Please just wear comfortable shoes and bring a jacket if raining. However with all the fallen leaves the tow path (even if it is not raining) it can be muddy/slippy so stout shoes are really required (stronger than recommended).

The walk is not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs.

Well-behaved dogs are welcome to join the walk, but must be kept on the lead at all times.

Free parking in residential roads to West of Peoples Park.

Paid car parks: Calthorpe Street, Castle Quay, Riverside, Windsor Street, North Bar, South Bar, Compton Road, George Street and Cherwell Street.

Toilets in Castle Quay (Start and end of walk).
