About this event

This workshop offers something a little different from our usual: join us for a one-of-a-kind, limited-edition session that brings together the art of lino printing with the creative expression of zine-making 👀

Unlike our regular collage zine sessions, this special event invites you to explore the stunning medium of lino printing – a traditional print-making technique using linoleum carvings.

With guidance from our special guest, Maya from Creative Licence, you'll learn all the basics of creating your own original linocut print which will be yours to keep and print in various coloured inks.

You will also work in two groups of seven, each contributing to one of the pages in a collaborative zine, and at the end of the workshop everyone will get a copy to keep!

This workshop is perfect for creative souls eager to explore new methods of storytelling and visual artforms. Spaces are limited to 14, so reserve your spot for this unique opportunity before it's too late!

All experience levels are welcome, and we will be there to gently guide youevery step of the way. All materials are provided on the day, but we encourage you to bring along any items you'd like to use as inspiration for your art.

We are releasing a range of ticket price options in the hope that everyone will be able to take part. There are a limited number of each ticket option available, therefore we kindly ask that you do an honest assessment of your affordability to ensure the intended equal access.

Here's a guide to help inform your choice:

✴️ £18 (covers some of our costs) – I am a student, unemployed, on benefits, financially stressed, or regularly struggle to meet my basic needs

✴️ £21 (covers most of our costs) – I am employed, have some expendable income, and manage to meet my basic needs

✴️ £25 (covers all of our costs and supports future workshops) – I am employed or have enough savings to comfortably meet my basic needs

Collaborating with us on this special edition workshop is Maya from Creative License.

Creative Licence was founded to create events that welcome everyone without pressure or expectations, whether a complete beginner or an already-established professional artist.

They host a wide range of events from regular Art Cafés, to al fresco art in the park, and special workshop experiences like this one. Check out their upcoming event dates here for more!

Frequently asked questions

What is lino print?

Lino printing, also known as linocut or linoleum art, is a traditional printmaking technique. It is a variant of woodcut, in which a sheet of linoleum (sometimes mounted on a wooden block) is used for a relief surface, in order to create bold and unique analogue prints.

Is lino printing safe for beginners?

Lino printing offers a hands-on, creative approach that's surprisingly easy to dive into, even if you're completely new to printmaking! The cutting tools are not very sharp, due to linoleum being a soft and easily-cut material. When handled correctly, the ink is safe to use and easy to wash out.

Do I need prior experience to participate?

All experience levels are welcome, but please note that we will be handling moderately sharp tools and ink as part of the lino printing process. Our aim is always to guide you gently through the process, ensuring a pressure-free environment where you can fully immerse into your creative flow.

Do I need to bring any materials along with me?

All materials are provided on the day, but we encourage you to bring along any items you'd like to use as inspiration for your art.

What is your refund policy?

Unfortunately all tickets for this event are non-refundable. This is due to limited numbers within the space and to help us cover running costs. If you can no longer attend, please let us know in advance so we can offer up the space to someone on the waiting list.
