About this event

  • Event lasts 5 hours

Have you thought about trying dinghy sailing or getting back into it? If you are wondering what it is like or if you would like to join our club, then this is your chance. Come and experience our hospitality and facilities and get out on the water for a first-hand experience on our lovely inland lake.

Littleton Sailing Club welcomes adults and families to come for a taster sail. Set sail in one of our multi-person training boats, with an experienced club sailor at the helm. Your experienced helm will show you the ropes and even let you take the helm if the weather is suitable.

There are three kinds of taster sails available at our Open Day:

Adult and Family Taster - for individual or pairs of adults or families to sail with an experienced adult helm in a multi-person boat, such as an RS Vision. One ticket is required per person sailing.

Youth Taster - for youths to sail 1:1 with an experienced youth sailor in a junior boat, such as an RS Feva.

Phabsail Taster - for disabled people and people with special needs and their families. (Please contact littletonphabsail@gmail.com for more info and to arrange your taster sail.)

If you decide you'd like to learn to sail, then talk to us about membership options and the Royal Yachting Association training courses that we run at the club.

The club’s open day will run from 11am to 4pm. You are welcome before and after your taster sail slot to enjoy lunch from the galley (did someone say bacon? cake?), beers and prosecco from the bar, and soak up the friendly club atmosphere. You are welcome to bring your own board and stand up paddleboard/windsurf - with your mandatory life jacket and safety leash - on our scenic lake and enjoy the wildlife.

Please arrive promptly for your scheduled slot and bring your ticket confirmation with you – either on your mobile device or printed. Late arrivals cannot be guaranteed to go afloat.

In order to make room for everyone who is interested in trying sailing and experiencing Littleton, taster slots are limited to one per person per season.

Frequently asked questions

Q. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

The best way of getting to the club is by car. There is plenty of parking on site. Alternatively, the nearest train station is Shepperton. We would recommend you take a taxi/bicycle from the station to the club. Otherwise, it is a healthy 35-minute walk.

Q. What should I wear for a sailing taster?

Wear suitable warm clothing, waterproof trousers and top, and trainers. Should you have a wetsuit and neoprene boots then that would also be an option though certainly not essential. Buoyancy aids must be worn whilst near and on the water. Bring a life jacket/buoyancy aid if you have one.

What should I wear for a windsurfing taster?

Bring a wetsuit, plus neoprene boots if you have them. The club does not provide wetsuits. Buoyancy aids must be worn whilst near and on the water. We will provide you with one if you don't have your own. There are hot showers so bring a towel and change of clothing.

Q. Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Email the organisers at tasters@littletonsc.co.uk.

Organised by

Littleton is an active sailing club, with a friendly atmosphere, where adults and families are all welcomed. Situated on an attractive lake, near Shepperton, we offer year round dinghy racing and cruising, windsurfing and stand up paddleboarding. Adults can learn to sail on one of our RYA training courses, while junior members start learning in a relaxed fun environment and can go on to take RYA certificated courses if they wish. In 2018 we celebrated 60 years, and are particularly proud to have been awarded Sports Club of the Year, in the Spelthorne Sports Awards that same year.
