About this event

  • Event lasts 2 hours

Join local historian Richard Fisher for a guided walk around Blockhouse Park and the local area, as we explore the theme of "fire" through history. We'll learn about the part fire has played in shaping the local area, from emergency signalling and news carrying, to the cannons installed at the Blockhouse fort, Beltane bonfires, fireworks, explosions, and much more!

All ages welcome. This session is for adults, young people, family groups and people who are curious about heritage, nature, and the local area.

Please meet up at The Village Hub.

Tickets are £3 per person

Under 18's tickets are FREE and need to be accompanied by an adult during the session.

If you wish to book for more that 4 people then please contact diane@thevillaghub.org.uk

We'll be outside throughout the session, so please wrap up warm and wear layers in case of rain and wind, and comfortable sturdy flat shoes for walking on and off paths. Paths in the park and the local area have both gentle and steep slopes, with no handrails. We will also follow footpaths, pavements and cobbled streets in the local area which may be uneven, wet and slippery at times. Although this is a relatively relaxed and gentle walk (with chances to stop as we go), some may find the route challenging due to slopes (up and down) and lack of opportunity to sit down en route, and may be quite difficult to navigate using mobility aids or manual wheelchairs.

This activity is part of Blockhouse Folk: Past, Present & Future - a two year project by The Village Hub to uncover and celebrate social and natural heritage in our neighbourhood - made possible with funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
