About this event

This workshop is inspired by the history of May Day, both the change in season and the rights of workers, in particular craftspeople. Join artist and educator Helen Mather to make a ribbon key ring that you will embellish by stitching, stamping or writing your message of celebration.

May Day's origins are as an ancient pagan festival and it has been a part of the calendar ever since, with the start of summer market by ribbons adorning trees or around the maypole. Since 1978 it has also been known as International Workers' Day or Labour Day, in recognition of the working classes and international Labour movement.

All of these traditions will be celebrated in a Family Friendly, colourful craft workshop.
