- The Centre for Mental Health estimates that 10 million people may need mental health support because of the pandemic.
- MHFA England is the country’s leading provider of MHFA training, with over 20,000 employers trusting MHFA England to deliver.
Outline
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course which teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis. This is a two-day training for people who teach, work, live with, and care for young people aged 8 to 18.
MHFA England training won’t teach you to be a therapist, but just like physical first aid, it will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis.
Leicestershire County Council employs accredited Instructor Members who are approved to deliver MHFA England Courses and are trained to keep people safe and supported while they learn.
Course Outcomes
This course focuses on the issues faced by young people today, such as cyber bullying and substance misuse, and teaches how to promote protective factors and good parenting. We also discuss brain development from childhood and how adverse experiences effects brain development around the onset of adolescence.
By attending this training you will learn:
- to preserve life where a young person may be a danger to themselves or others
- to provide help to prevent the mental health problem developing into a more serious state
- to promote the recovery of good mental health
- to provide comfort to a young person experiencing a mental health problem
- to raise awareness of mental health issues in the community
- to reduce stigma and discrimination
Recent Testimonials
"I found this course incredibly informative, and although the course content is heavy and about serious issues, it was taught in a way that it never felt too much.I'm looking forward to gaining even more in confidence, experience and knowledge as I put what I have learnt in to practice."
"Such a great and informative course. Although I am aware of mental health issues I was not all of all of them and not to the extent the course covered. Both instructors made me feel very welcome and I never felt like I was being judged. It's not easy to carry out a course online but ******** and ****** did such a great job and I loved the tasks they set out. They always switched up the groups so we interacted with everyone on the course."
"I have recommended this course (and its leaders) to anyone who will listen, two colleagues in other schools are enquiring about booking. I highly recommend it for all and would like to thank the leaders for their professionalism, care, knowledge and support. It really has been the best and most relevant training I have ever done. Thank you all.
