An Originator of the Midcentury Modern Movement in the UK

The Dulwich Midcentury Modern Fair isn’t just another vintage event—it’s a key part of the UK's design history. Modern Shows®. Founded by Petra Curtis and Lucy Ryder Richardson, it is credited with popularizing the term "Midcentury Modern" in Britain, well before it became a cultural phenomenon through shows like Mad Men. The duo's passion and expertise in mid-century design have made the fair a must-visit for top interior and furniture designers, starchitects, and even celebrities such as Olivia Colman, Jason Statham, and Andrew Garfield.

Meet the Experts

At Dulwich, you’ll have plenty of time to chat with the dealers and designers, who are more than willing to share their extensive knowledge. Whether you're hunting for a statement piece or just browsing, you'll experience the thrill of discovering design classics in a vibrant, interactive setting.

Contemporary Design Meets Mid-Century Classics

While the ground floor is dedicated to vintage finds, the upper level showcases cutting-edge contemporary design. Tanya Pateman curates this vibrant section, bringing in a mix of innovative designers whose work complements the mid-century aesthetic, ensuring the fair offers something for every style and taste.

  • "Midcentury Modern is a dangerous show. All the must-see vintage furniture, lighting and accessories dealers in one place makes for serious temptation. Lucy and Petra organise the shows with their idiosyncratic verve and energy and in atmospheric locations so the events feel like an occasion / day out and not just a shopping experience."Jenny Dalton. Freelance. How To Spend It. Financial Times.
  • "Held in the beautiful and very appropriate Christison building designed by Wates in the Sixties, this show is stuffed with all the recognisable classics of Scandinavian, American and British heroes of 20C design. It's like visiting a design museum where you can sit on the classics, talk to knowledgable people and then take the exhibits home with you. I enjoy every show immensely and would recommend this show to any lover of design." Matthew Hilton, furniture designer
  • "Damn you @modernshows and your beautiful vintage furniture. #Quality" @absolutebombs

I don't have a car. How do I get there?

West Dulwich BR and 5 min walk or Brixton or Crystal Palace underground or BR and a number 3 bus.

Why do I have to walk up to Christison Hall to check in? It is the furthest building away?

You will be going to the main hall and contemporary gallery and mezzanine at some point in your day anyway. We start you off here as it is here you can get a floorplan, checked in and have our staff answer any questions you might have. The buggy park and food is also here.

What is access like for my disabled friend or family member?

All people in wheelchairs can come in free but due to the nature of the 60s building and steps in the cloisters you will only be able to access about 30 dealers in Christison Hall. We apologise in advance for this inconvenience.

I have an NHS or Dulwich College Staff badge

All NHS badge holders and Dulwich College staff are allowed in free where the pic on the badge looks like you :)

Im press or an interior designer

Press are allowed in free if they have done a write up for this specific event. Interior designers are not free but can get free tickets from dealers showing that they work with if the dealer has not used up their free tickets and this cannot be done on the day. It must be by prior arrangement.

Im a celebrity/influencer

Celebrities/ influencers are not able to come in free unless they have done a prior promotion swap for free tickets. The ones who have been so far have been very happy to be treated like everyone else.

Im doing this for work and want to claim back on tax

Ask for a receipt at the door if paying on the day or pay at a discount beforehand and you will get a receipt in your inbox.

Why do you charge to get in when it is a shopping experience?

Collating 85 dealers and designer in one place is a huge amount of work and money and we need to cover our admin costs. We have had people complain at the door in the past who have returned to apologise saying the event was so much bigger and better than they imagined.
