More about MBCT...

Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) combines elements of mindfulness practice and cognitive behavioral therapy to help individuals develop greater awareness and acceptance of their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. MBCT is particularly good at preventing relapse of episodes of low mood/depression, for those of us who are currently well or have received prior therapy. MBCT is more recently recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) for people with mild-moderate and recurrent depression, and can also be very helpful for people who want to manage stress more effectively.

The course will be run by an experienced therapist and qualified Mindfulness teacher and there will be about 10-15 participants. This may be daunting for some, but you will not be required to share your history with other participants, as the course focuses upon developing skills and reflection upon mindfulness practices.

Is it for me?

Anyone can benefit from mindfulness, however the course may not be suitable for you if you have a severe mental health problem or you are experiencing significant upheaval of any kind. For example, if you have a current drug/alcohol problem, are currently accessing another therapeutic service, or have experienced a recent bereavement or trauma.

Please note you must be a resident or have a registered GP within the Manchester City Council area to register

The course includes...

  • Guided instruction in mindful meditation
  • Guided gentle physical stretching
  • Group discussion about mindfulness practices
  • Cognitive therapy theory and activities on depression and anxiety
  • Daily home practice
  • Audio recordings of guided practice
  • Weekly homework.
