Basingstoke Male Voice Choir was formed in 1964 and recently celebrated its 60th anniversary. In earlier days, the choir appeared on television and radio, undertook tours and performed at prestigious venues across the UK.

These days, they perform regularly, raising funds for charities at most appearances. The members range in age from 18 to 90, and their repertoire is wide-ranging, taking in traditional choral standards, show tunes and rock anthems such as Coldplay's “Fix You” and “Something Just Like This” or Journey's “Don't Stop Believing”. The choir is actively recruiting and new members are always welcome. They rehearse every Tuesday evening 7:30 to 9:30 at the Moose Centre, Churchill Way in central Basingstoke.

Celebrating their 13th year together, Ooh Mama Ladies’ Choir was founded by Kate Barrett in 2012 after being inspired by Gareth Malone’s ‘Military Wives’ choir.

Kate formed the choir to meet the need for mums to have some ‘me time’ which is where the name comes from, Ooh Mama Ladies’ Choir.

The choir has significantly grown in numbers since 2012 and has expanded to welcome all ladies. The repertoire is hugely varied and challenging, providing a range for all ages and musical tastes.

Kate is one of the Musial Directors of The Basingstoke Festival of Choirs (BFOC). BFOC regularly perform together, most recently at The Mayor’s concert at the Anvil.

Ooh Mama are delighted to support this evening's event.

Wootton St Lawrence is a rural village without a village hall, pub or shop. The beautiful, historic church of St Lawrence is central to the community, used for a variety of events. However, it lacks the basic essential amenities of a water supply and toilet, often making it impractical. Facilities need to be introduced and the church needs to be adapted to ensure it is maintained for future generations and thrives as a centre for the community.

The Friends of St Lawrence (FoSL), St Lawrence for our Time project was launched in 2022 to reorder the church to install a water supply, toilet, kitchen area and flexible meeting space. FoSL are avidly fundraising in order to progress the project.
