We are pleased to invite you to the 5th Narrative Criminology Symposium which will take place from 15th-17th June 2025 in Swansea, Wales, UK. The symposium will be hosted by the Department of Criminology, Sociology and Social Policy, the School of Social Sciences, Swansea University.
Narrating Harm, Narrating Hope
Storytelling is an important facet of human behaviour. In this 5th Narrative Criminology Symposium, we ask how stories influence and/or are implicated in behaviour that does harm as well as efforts to undo harm or effect repair. We also consider stories for better understanding of the lived realities, aspirations, and resistances of those who experience varied and/or multiple harms. In taking a broad approach to narrative methods, the symposium seeks to incorporate a diverse collection of voices.
In an endeavour to develop our theoretical, empirical and practical understandings of narrative approaches, the symposium seeks to provide an inclusive space for discussion through a series of plenary sessions, masterclasses, poster presentations and parallel sessions. The symposium will have a strong multidisciplinary appeal and we would encourage participation from those sitting within a variety of disciplines such as criminology, sociology, anthropology, psychology, linguistics, political science, philosophy, history, gender studies, media studies, cultural studies and law, as well as from those with practitioner and/or campaigning backgrounds.
Please note that the symposium will take place in-person. We cannot offer online participation.
