About this event

  • Event lasts 1 day 9 hours

Given the mix of world-leading academic research, legal expertise and space-related industry and manufacturing, the UK in general and Scotland in particular is a leader in the space industry, and in particular in sustainable space showing thought leadership, developing initiatives and best practice action.

One direct example of Scotland's space sustainability leadership are the Niparo Summits which bring together academia, industry and government to make tangible progress in the area of space sustainability.

The engagement and sucess of the two previous Niparo summits have resulted in publications and outcomes that have influenced policy makers, academic researcher councils, governments and international space agencies.

The 3rd Niparo Summit on Space Sustainability, is to be held on 21st and 22nd May 2025. The aim of the summit is to deeper understand the accelerators and roadblocks to insurance related to space activities, In-Orbit Servicing, Assembly and Manufacturing (ISAM) technologies and financial innovation all under the umbrella of space sustainability and the circular economy.

We look to host 140 global thought leaders in space sustainability across academic, government and industry, with the 2025 Summit held at Heriot-Watt University, a leader in photonics, quantum and AI technology. Heriot-Watt also hosts the new ``Hub Optical Ground Station (HOGS) facility that will develop and deliver quantum secure satellite communications.

We hope you can join us, especially ahead of what promises to be a critical and exciting year for the UK and Scottish Space Sector.
