Ni Chaînes ni maîtres (2024) Film Screening and Conversation with Director Simon Moutaïrou

Date: 8 May 2025

Time: 18:00

Location: Umney Theatre, Robinson College

Join us for a special screening of the film Ni chaînes ni maîtres 'No chains, no masters' (2024), followed by a Q&A and conversation with its director, Simon Moutaïrou, and Dr Doyle Calhoun (MMLL, University of Cambridge). Set in the 18th-century French colony of Isle de France, present-day Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, Ni Chaînes ni maîtres is one of only a handful of French films to explore the country's history of slavery, resistance, marronage, and abolition.
