About this event

Please note that this ticket is for a recording of the live event on 1 February. Tickets for the live event are available here. You will be emailed access details to the recording by 15 February. The recording is not downloadable but will be available for viewing until at least 15 March, 2025.

Discover why The Journey design exercise has become so popular and how it might help you to develop new and original designs, that can then be developed into printing blocks or any other way you might use a design.

Kim will be showing examples of how her students have developed ideas and work from this exercise. She developed this exercise for students in her Experimental Textiles course to help them overcome the fear of making marks on white paper. It is more like playschool than serious, ‘proper’ design.

Kim Thittichai is the author of 4 books commissioned by Batsford: Hot Textiles, Experimental Textiles, Layered Textiles and Reclaimed Textiles.

She has been writing and delivering various courses and workshops for the past 30 years, teaching regularly in the UK and Europe as well Australia, New Zealand and India. Teaching students how to develop their own, original, ideas and textile practice is a passion, and she considers it a great privilege to encourage learners, old and new, to flourish and gain in confidence.

With the experience of writing and creating her own courses and workshops over the years, Kim has been able to refine her teaching practice – helping students who wish to expand their knowledge of textiles processes, how to use them, and most important of all – how to play with, and layer up processes and techniques to create their own path and style of work.
