ONS Local has been established by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to support evidence-based decision-making at the local level. We aim to host insightful events that connect our users with exciting developments happening in subnational statistics and analysis at the ONS and across other organisations.
This webinar will cover the latest edition of the 2021 Rural Urban Classification (RUC). The RUC is a statistical classification which provides a consistent and standardised method for categorising geographies as either rural or urban, based on address density, physical settlement form, population size and, new for 2021, relative access to major towns and cities (populations of over 75,000 people). It is used for a variety of purposes across a range of government departments including underpinning DEFRA’s ‘Statistical Digest of Rural England’. Applying the classification will allow the analysis of an urban/rural split across various statistics including deprivation, as well as providing a proxy of ‘nearer’ or ‘further’ from a major town or city.
This event is open to all; we anticipate it will be of most interest to anyone working on statistics that may include an urban/rural dimension.
