Guest of Honour: Francesca Barbini

Francesca T Barbini is a writer, editor and translator from Rome, Italy. In January 2015 she founded Luna Press Publishing, an award-winning small press, home of speculative fiction in fiction and academia.

PictCon1 is a small convention, running just one day at the Salutation Hotel on South St, Perth. The focus is on Science Fiction and Fantasy books, games, art etc, produced in Scotland or by Scots, but there are no rigid rules. This is the first year.

This is a participant convention, if you would like to offer a talk, suggest a topic, or would like to be on a panel please fill in the participant form here. https://forms.gle/hR9FsthHgPfSZ9Aw8

We intend to have talks and panels. Initially just one track is planned, but there is a spare room for another, small track of workshops if people want to offer one.

If it becomes clear that people are coming in the night before, a social will be planned.

Dealers are welcome and tables can be bought along with a ticket.

[This first convention is being run as cheaply as we can manage it, so there will be no facility for hybrid participation, but we have made a ticket available for voice recordings of events, subject to the consent of participants.]

Frequently asked questions

What is the Accessibility like?

The convention is on the ground floor of the hotel which has step free access. We have microphones for the convention and will produce a large print programme.

Is there a bar?

Yes, but we can't guarantee real ale.

Where do we find food?

The hotel is in the centre of town. It currently offers "two meals for a tenner". There are cafes on the same road, and in the roads just off, including the lovely cafe in the museum. Tesco's is a few doors down. Subway is 0.2 miles away

How do I get there?

There are trains to Perth from Dundee, Glasgow, Edinburgh and London. From the station it is a 0.5 miles/13 minute walk or 4 minute taxi ride. There are also buses. If you have a mobility need and would appreciate a ride, we can arrange it.

I want to stay over night, where do I stay?

The three big hotels are the Salutation, the George and the Premier Inn. At the other end of town is the Mercure. There are a large number of B&Bs: look for Pitcullen Crescent on the Map for B&Bs just over the river. (Do *not* stay at the Perth Central Travelodge, it's terrible.)

Is there a Code of Conduct

PictCon1 is intended to be a safe place for all the diverse people in our community. Harrassment of any kind will lead to expulsion. A full Code of Conduct will be issued closer to the convention and will be based on that of Eastercon 2024. https://tinyurl.com/5n7pr75a
