Who qualifies for concessions?

Students who are enrolled and are currently studying. Those claiming Jobseekers Allowance/ any other state benefits and OAPs
Please note you will have to provide proof of your status.  An email request will be made AFTER you have paid.

Question 3

Does the university provide accommodation or do you have any recommendations?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately, Anglia Ruskin University does not provide accommodation.  Cambridge is a beautiful city with well-priced hotels like Premier Inn, Travelodge, and Air BnBs.  We don’t tend to make recommendations as tastes and budgets vary but we do STRONGLY suggest booking somewhere with a desk!

Question 4

Will we be focusing on just picture books – not novels or comics?

The Picturebook Summer School will focus on JUST picturebooks.  The course is only 5 days and picturebooks have such a massive scope we will not encompass other genres and formats.

Question 5

What is the schedule of the course. Is it the whole day? How many hours is it?

Accepted Answer

The course runs from Monday -  Friday. Days start at 9am ending at about 4pm. After which there is a lecture with a guest speaker for about an hour.  Usually, students, exhausted but pumped up, go to their accommodation and continue to work.

Do people from different ages usually go? Or is it mainly for recent graduates?

YES! All different ages attend the course, from 18 - 80! Creativity and the love of Children's literature has no cut-off!  The summer school is not an accredited course but it is often used as a 'taster' course for the MA in Children's Book Illustration or just for pure fun and intrest.

I'm not a professional but I am artist, is it ok that I attend the Main School?

The Main school is exactly right for you! The Advance Track is for Illustrators and postgraduate students, who have experience in Children’s literature and would like some support with specific projects. The  The Main School is for novices to  experienced artists.
