We are Greensleeved, a female-led theatre company that focuses on reworking Shakespeare’s plays through a female perspective, and this summer we are touring our production Learlike all across Europe. But! Before we leave, we want to share an in-progress version of our show with young women across London, and invite you to a Reimagining Shakespeare workshop on Wednesday the 30th of April at London Bubble –
To create Learlike, which tells the story of four young women standing up to their father’s tyranny, our team has done some serious work to make Shakespeare’s text and worldview ring true for a young female audience. In our show, Goneril, Regan, Cordelia are women with ambition, nightmares and wit, and we have even created a fully new character – Isode – to give Shakespeare’s Lear a fearless rebel.
To celebrate our work and to make sure we share our tools and discoveries with everyone who feels Shakespeare isn’t for them, we are inviting young people from marginalised genders between 18 and 25 to join us, and to learn how to make Shakespeare’s words your own.
In this workshop, you’ll be invited to:
· Act in our newly written scenes/characters for Learlike, and discover the material on your feet
· Work through Lear’s original story arcs, and build believable female characters in Shakespeare’s world
· Create your own classical monologue with the support of our dramaturg and director, ensuring you have the tools to make Shakespeare’s work your own
The workshop will be led by the Greensleeved, that’s Julia, Lucy, Ariela, Amber and Cecilia, and will take approx. two hours.
We really hope to see you there!
