An online roundtable/call to arms for everyone working in and with comics in Scotland
While 8% of the UK population lives in Scotland, 15% of its comics creators do. What makes Scotland such a hotbed for comics? And how can we ensure this hardy scene thrives far into the future?
This roundtable, a collaboration between Small Press Scotland and the Comics Cultural Impact Collective with support from CHIP Collective, is open to all who work in and with comics in Scotland, from established veterans to fresh-faced newcomers.
Following on from the nationwide discussions digging into the findings of the UK Comics Creators Research Report, this event will take a more action-oriented approach: providing a space to sound out potential projects and activities that benefit creators, boost audience access, and develop infrastructure. A brainstorming opportunity for us to throw any ideas into the pot; see what bubbles up.
There will be two sets of breakout rooms involving the following themes -
- Festivals & event-planning
- Funding
- Comics used for education / applied comics
- Comics education & training
- Breaking into comics
- Printing and production
- Retailers
- Making an income
Please indicate on the post-booking questionnaire which of these are of interest to you so that we can plan accordingly!
For those interested in taking things further, there will be an opportunity afterwards to connect with like-minded others: we want this discussion to be a launchpad for a wave of scheming. (There’s probably a more LinkedIn term for this, but this isn’t that kind of event, and we’re not those kinds of people.)
