"SHE'S IN JAIL" - Documentary Screening in Solidarity with Chow Hang Tung and human rights defenders in Hong Kong
Date: 14 Dec 2024 (Sat)
Time: 2 pm - 5 pm (1:30pm start admission)
Venue: Human Rights Action Centre, 25 New Inn Yard, London, EC2A 3EA

Synopsis: (104 min, Chinese and English with subtitles)
The documentary She’s in Jail" focuses on the life of Chow Hang-tung, one of the latest prisoners of Conscience by Amnesty International, a Hong Kong human rights lawyer and woman human rights defender currently imprisoned under the National Security Law because of the organisation of June Fourth Commemoration Vigil. Despite her incarceration, Chow's spirit has been recognised globally, earning her five international human rights awards in 2023, including the Council of Bars and Law Societies of Europe (CCBE) Human Rights Award. The documentary narrates her contributions to the democratic movements and reflects the current political and human rights situation in Hong Kong through in-depth interviews and personal accounts from friends and comrades.

We will also have a sharing session, "Solidarity Across the Ocean", delivered by Tony Chung, an exiled Hong Kong activist seeking asylum in the UK who was convicted by National Security Laws and sentenced to 3 years and 7 months. He will share his first-person experience as a political prisoner in Hong Kong, and the significance of support from overseas communities amid transnational repression.

There will be a solidarity letter-writing action for the latest Prisoners of Conscience Chow Hang Tung, Jimmy Lai, and other Human rights defenders, including the 47 democrats being prosecuted by National Security Law in Hong Kong.
