The desire to reduce congestion and improve radial connectivity led to the re introduction of trams in London in 2000, so representing a reversal their 1952 demise. The trambuses are designed to test technology helping to speed the transition to zero emission transport. Tram trains are an idea to significantly speed up journey times between poorly connected south London neighbourhoods.
During the trip we will walk the linear Addiscombe Railway Park. This was created when the opening of the new tram system rendered the old Addiscombe to Elmers End branch line redundant. This walk is about 1.5 miles long. We will then join the tram and the rail network to relocate to Crystal Palace for refreshments. This is where we review the tram-train ideas.
We then join the trambuses for a journey to connect with the trams again for our return to Croydon.
