About this event

  • Event lasts 1 hour

Being a lawyer has changed quite significantly over the years and the progress is showing little slowdown given the rises in technology and AI we hear about on a daily basis. Every qualified solicitor at some point in their career may have found themselves at the crossroad – do I work in private practice or try a role in house? However, with rises in alternative legal service providers, fractional counsel and freelance work, the idea of what a traditional career in law looks like is no longer set with only binary choices.

Dentons Helix was born from a desire to bridge the gap between traditional private practice and typical alternative legal services approaches, to be fully focused on enabling and empowering in-house legal teams to achieve their strategic objectives. Dentons Helix aims to disrupt the market, seeking to combine the best of all that big law offers in expertise, technology and innovation to engage with GCs in identifying the needs of their in-house teams to build a bespoke outsourced legal support. This new way of working means Dentons Helix is making space for a new type of lawyer – people who are striving for something a little different. You may be looking for a change from traditional legal practice but still enjoy working as part of a large international law firm to provide high quality service, or you may be in house lawyers who are interested in working in an innovative way that gives you greater flexibility on the day to day.

Dentons Helix is primarily a remote offering servicing clients all over the UK, allowing most of the lawyers choose where they want to live rather than having to be near the office, with our Scotland based lawyers having the ability to flexibly use Dentons Scotland offices in both Glasgow and Edinburgh.

In this event, you can meet a few of the Dentons Helix lawyers who will introduce Helix, discussing in more detail their roles day to day, what attracted them to join the firm and the opportunities available:

• Thembe McInnes, Group Managing Lawyer, Helix

• Qurra-Tulain Amir, Senior Lawyer, Helix (Employment)

• Johannes Arens, Helix (Commercial)

• Abigail Benson, Lawyer, Helix (Property)

• Amanda Gordon, Deputy Manging Lawyer, Helix (Commercial)

Come join us on 30 April, at 6pm to explore the rise of alternative legal roles in Scotland
