About this event

A walk under the stars

Our biggest fundraising event of the year, Starlight Hike Thames Valley, is returning to Mapledurham Estate on Saturday 11th October 2025 at 5.00pm. Join us to walk under the stars whilst raising funds in memory of your loved ones.

Get together with friends and family and challenge yourself to accomplish the 5k or 10k route which wraps around the beautiful grounds of the Estate, with stunning views across the Thames.

You'll have plenty of time to grab yourself refreshments, enjoy live music and join in an energetic Zumba warm up, all before setting off on the hike at 6pm. Near the beginning of the route, you will pass a special remembrance area where you can make a dedication for your loved ones. Around the route you will see stunning light installations including coloured waves per kilometre marker to help guide you and ensure that you celebrate every step of the way.

As you cross the finish line you'll be handed your well deserved medal. So, sign up today for a night you won't forget. Joining together with hundreds of others to celebrate the lives of those who we love and miss.

Please note that this route is challenging in places and not suitable for those using walking aids or pushchairs.

Donation station

We'll also be holding a 'donation station' at Starlight Hike.

If you have old or unwanted clothes, you can save them from landfill and help give them a new home by donating them to our Sue Ryder charity shops at Starlight Hike. Simply bring a bag of unwanted clothes and drop them off at our ‘donation station’ at Starlight Hike before you set off on the walk.

Together we can ensure no one has to face dying or grief alone

Last year over 9,400 people across the country were cared for by Sue Ryder’s hospice teams, including from our Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice and Sue Ryder Palliative Care Hub South Oxfordshire or in their own homes in the community.

Our dedicated Sue Ryder Nurses manage patients' pain and symptoms, enabling them to spend their final days surrounded by family and friends.

By taking part in Sue Ryder Starlight Hike you’re helping ensure people approaching the end of their life or grieving can access the right support at the right time. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but together we can ensure, no one has to face dying or grief alone.

We are there when it matters

Sue Ryder is here to make sure everyone approaching the end of their life or living with grief can access the support they need. There is no one size fits all when it comes to how we cope and the help we need, but with our support, no one has to face dying or grief alone.

Currently, only a third of our hospice funding comes from the government. This means we completely rely on the generosity of our amazing supporters to cover the remaining costs of our end of life care and services for grieving families.

75p in every £1 spent goes towards our palliative and bereavement support.
