Supplying Translation is research symposium which explores literary translation as a supply-driven phenomenon.

<h3>Please note: to access the symposium in MS Teams, you will be sent an email invite containing the link.</h3>Please check your junk folder as this email will come directly from the organiser, not through Eventbrite messaging. This invitation will give you full access to the event platform including being able to ask questions and join discussion, whereas sharing a generic link to the event leaves non-MS users without these functions.Eventbrite booking ends at 12 noon GMT on the last working day before the event (Friday 23rd April 2021).<h3>About this event</h3>Supplying Translation is a digital research symposium hosted by the <a href="https://www.nottingham.ac.uk/research/groups/ctccs/index.aspx" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies </a>at the University of Nottingham. The programme features presentations from academics, literary translators, and those who occupy both of these roles to greater and lesser extents.Contributions will explore the idea of literary translation as a supply-driven phenomenon, and will address topics such as state-funded programmes for the support of literary translation; the translator&#x27;s role as agent, or as &#x27;a supplier&#x27; of translations; selection processes in the target culture that determine which projects receive translation funding; the role of sample translations in the circulation of literatures in translation; and much more. Some of the key questions the symposium seeks to address include:<ul><li>how might drives to supply literary translations vary in different contexts, and why?</li><li>how does a framework of supply-driven translation differ from previous iterations of similar concepts?</li><li>could an awareness of supply-driven translation processes challenge existing concepts of centre and periphery?</li><li>can source-oriented approaches assist calls for greater diversity in publishing in the UK?</li><li>could greater awareness of supply-driven translation processes improve working conditions for translators?</li></ul><h3>Format of the event</h3>The conference will take place on Microsoft Teams, a video chat and conferencing app. There will be presentations and break out discussions throughout the day. If you would like to join the conference audience please register for your spot here and we will send a link to the Microsoft Teams event platform a few days prior to the conference.The event is free and open to all, but registration is essential.
