About this event

What is it?

Taizé in France is an extraordinary place – quite different from anywhere else. It combines a religious monastery with the feel of a huge youth camp! Young adults from many different backgrounds and denominations travel to Taizé for a unique Christian experience of openness, solidarity and encounter.

You’ll experience a wonderful sense of freedom, prayer and community. There’s nothing compulsory about Taizé, but it’s not a holiday resort. Meetings at Taizé are about searching, listening to God and to each other and thinking about what it means to be human. Together we discover how we can act to bring justice, peace and hope to our world.

You’ll eat out of plastic bowls, stay up late and spend amazing amounts of time singing and talking and sharing. No one who has been to Taizé comes back unchanged. So why not join this pilgrimage and see what there is to discover?

The Oxford and Guildford Diocese are teaming up and heading out together on this Taizé pilgrimage. It will run from 16th-24th August 2025 and is open to anyone aged 15-35.

Frequently asked questions

What is the food like at Taizé?

There is a range of food at Taizé. In the morning it is normally baguette and jam or a stick of chocolate with a bowl of tea or hot chocolate. There is cous cous, and veg, sometimes a slice of meat and some cheese. The food is basic as they are catering for hundreds of people, so do bring snacks!

Do they cater for those with allergies and intolerances?

Yes, there is a separate area for those with dietary requirement, as they are catering for many intolerances the food can be a little bland, so do bring some bits to jazz it up and some snacks to supplement.

Where will I be sleeping?

This year we will be in tents. Do bring a small tent along. There is a camping area where all the under 25s will be plus their designated adults, and an camping area for the over 25s and families.

What are the facilities like?

The showering and toilet areas are nearby and there are many around the site. They get cleaned everyday and the water is hot, which is great!

Is there Wi-Fi?

Yes there is but it is limited. There are times in the day when you can go to Oyak and there is free Wi-Fi. Do look into your phone contract and provider as you may have to look into roaming charges. If you are needing Wi-Fi throughout the day make sure this is set up before you come.

Can I charge my phone/devices?

There are limited areas around the site, especially when camping, so it would be best to bring external battery packs, but the main sanctuary does have sockets, remember your European plug adapters!

I don't think I can afford the whole cost, what should I do?

Email bishop.reading@oxford.anglican.org and they will be able to go through the options with you.
