Talk with the Expert features advances in open and reproducible research as part of the CIimate Informatics 2023 Reproducibility Challenge.

On 8 May, 09:00-10:00 London time (UTC+1) (<a href="https://arewemeetingyet.com/London/2023-05-08/09:00" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">in your timezone</a>) we will be hosting <a href="https://csaybar.github.io/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Cesar Luis Aybar</a>, rOpenSci Champion from the Image and Signal Processing (ISP) group at the Universitat de València. Cesar will be giving a talk followed by a demo on recent open-source software developments in <a href="https://github.com/r-spatial" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">r-spatial</a> to prepare remote sensing data for deep learning. <a href="https://ropensci.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">rOpenSci</a> creates technical and community infrastructure for open and reproducible research in the R language. The format of the talk is:<ul><li>5﻿ min - Intro</li><li>10 min - Presentation</li><li>20 min - Demo</li><li>20 min - Q&A (not recorded)</li><li>5 min - AOB</li></ul>We will facilitate open discussions in the Q&A with attendees to learn about their perspectives on the topic via a shared document (links shared upon registration).This event is being co-hosted by <a href="https://edsbook.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">EDS book</a> - a computational notebook community for Open Environmental Science, <a href="http://www.climateinformatics.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Climate Informatics</a> - an open community interested in research combining climate science with approaches from statistics, machine learning and data mining and <a href="https://www.cambridge.org/core/journals/environmental-data-science" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Environmental Data Science Journal</a> - part of Cambridge University Press and Assessment designed to highlight the potential of artificial intelligence and data science to enhance our understanding of the environment, and to address climate change.About the speaker:Cesar Luis Aybar is a PhD student from the Image and Signal Processing (ISP) group at the Universitat de València, where he focuses on developing deep learning techniques for processing and analysing remote sensing data. Specifically, his current research centres on diffusion models for super-resolution and quantization techniques for the semantic understanding of clouds and cloud shadows. Cesar is also the primary maintainer of rgee, an R package that enables users to interact with Google Earth Engine from within R.
