Following on from last term, this course will look at some more of the great temple sites of the Roman empire, ranging from Roman sanctuary towns in Britain to Petra and Palmyra we will explore how temples in the provinces reflect both Roman and provincial beliefs.

2 May: The politics of religion: Lavinium, Mount Latiaris and the Latin festival
9 May: Sanctuary districts: The Altbachtal of Trier and the sanctuary district at Carnuntum
16 May: Springhead – a sanctuary town in the South of Britain

23 May: Halfterm

30 May: Carthage and the sanctuaries of Tanit in North Africa
6 June: Ephesos – a sanctuary and the bank of Asia
13 June: Petra and Khirbet et Tannur – Nabatean sanctuaries
20 June: Palmyra – how many sanctuaries does one town need?

Please note all lectures will be recorded and distributed to the participants at the beginning of the next week. This should allow participants from different time zones, or those working to catch up with the lectures.
