About this event

Visit The Horse Trust in the peaceful Chiltern countryside and say hello to our horses, ponies, and donkeys in the stables and surrounding fields.

(Before reading on, please note: 1 ticket = 1 car. If you’re a Gold Sponsor or Season Pass holder, there’s no need to pre-book a parking space. Just remember to show your Horse Trust pass upon entry.)

The Horse Trust is nestled in the beautiful Chiltern countryside between High Wycombe and Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire. Here, we care for up to 140 retired and rescued horses, ponies and donkeys.

During your visit, you can meet some of our residents and learn about their fascinating backstories. Our horses come from a variety of backgrounds, including the police, military, Royal Mews, Riding for the Disabled Association, and heart-wrenching rescue cases.

We also offer a scenic walkway that takes you along some of our fields, where you can see more of our residents grazing and enjoy a peaceful stroll.

Treat yourself to hot drinks, delicious cakes, or even a traditional cream tea in our Black Beauty Tea Room. Additionally, we have a small museum on-site where you can delve into our rich history.

If you have any queries, see our FAQ section below, or contact us at 01494 488464 during office hours (Monday-Friday (8.30am - 4.30pm) or email info@horsetrust.org.uk.

Thank you so much for supporting The Horse Trust.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Frequently asked questions

Is it suitable for wheelchair access?

Our site is flat and paved, with ramps available where needed to ensure easy access. We have two accessible toilets and six dedicated disabled parking spaces. Please note, however, that the grassed walking routes by the horse fields might not be suitable for wheelchair users.

Do you offer group bookings or parties?

Coach visits are available by appointment on weekdays only, but group visits may be possible outside these hours with prior arrangement. To find out more, feel free to email us at info@horsetrust.org.uk or give us a call on 01494 488464. We’d love to hear from you!

Can I bring my dog(s)?

Dogs are very welcome onsite and in our Black Beauty Tea Room - just make sure to keep them on a lead during your visit. We can’t wait to see you and your furry friends!

What should I wear or bring on the visit?

We recommend dressing for the weather and wearing comfy shoes. While the main part of our site is paved, the grassed walking routes can get muddy, especially after rain. If you’re planning to explore further afield, don’t forget your walking shoes or wellies!

Does your Tea Room offer hot meals?

Our Tea Room doesn’t serve hot meals, so we recommend coming along well-fed and ready to enjoy your visit - though we’d suggest leaving a little room for dessert!

Can I bring a picnic?

Picnics aren’t allowed onsite, but don’t worry - our Black Beauty Tea Room has a selection of sweet treats, hot drinks, and soft drinks for you to enjoy. We’ve got something to satisfy every craving!

Do you have a gift shop?

Our gift section is located in our Black Beauty Tea Room where you will be able to find Horse Trust merchandise, information about sponsorships, and more!

What happens if the weather is bad?

Be sure to check our social media and website for any closure updates in case of bad weather. If we do need to close, we’ll issue full refunds.

What is your refund policy?

We’re unable to offer refunds for cancellations. However, bookings may be transferred to a different date at our discretion, as long as you contact us at info@horsetrust.org.uk at least 48 hours before your original booking. While we can’t guarantee a change, we’ll do our best to accommodate!

Will I be able to see my sponsor horse?

We’re happy to let you know when your sponsor horse is likely to be in, but please note we can’t always guarantee it. Horses have their own routines and needs, but we’ll do our best to help make your visit special!

Where can I find the donkeys?

Lola and Nora live in their paddock, located to the right just before the archway. If you walk towards the end of the stables, you’ll likely spot their donkey ears - unless they’re off with our training team!

Can I feed horses during my visit?

All our horses are on special diets, so we kindly ask that you don’t feed them during your visit. However, we warmly welcome any horse-friendly donations, like carrots!

Where are the walks?

Our walkway runs along the fields to the right of the driveway as you enter. Once you’re parked, head out of the car park. Opposite the Shetland paddock, you’ll spot a public right of way gate there - just follow it for a beautiful walk across a lovely part of our site!

Can we access The Horse Trust via public transport?

If you enjoy a hike through muddy terrain, you can get off at the bus at Kilnwood in Walter's Ash and follow a public footpath past Planet Wheels to our site. Bus services 300 Aylesbury Bus Station and 814 Monks Risborough stop at Walter's Ash. We ask for a £1 walking entry donation.
