About ACLT

The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT) is a UK-based charity established in 1996 by Beverley De-Gale and Orin Lewis. Its mission is to raise awareness about stem cell, blood, and organ donation within black and mixed-race communities.

The organization was founded following their son, Daniel De-Gale's, diagnosis with leukaemia in 1993, highlighting the critical need for more donors from these communities. In 1999, Daniel became the first black individual in the UK to receive a life-saving bone marrow transplant from an unrelated donor. Despite his passing in 2008 due to health complications, ACLT continues to honor his legacy by increasing donor registrations and supporting patients with blood cancer and blood disorders.

The charity has received several accolades, including the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Special Achievement Award in 2006, and both founders have been honored with OBEs for their services to healthcare.
