Can my toddler/child under 10 come?

Accepted Answer

Unfortunately not, we have purposely made this event focused on women rather than the needs to children to give women a break from the usual. A baby who is still reliant on their mother e.g. still breast or bottle fed is welcome but not young children who run around and need constant supervision.

Question 2

If I book tickets for me and my teenage daughters - do we all need to bring a dish?

Accepted Answer

No, one dish per family would be enough, perhaps just bring a bigger portion.

Question 3

How else can I help?

Accepted Answer

Please help us tidy up at the end of the event because we will lose our deposit.

Question 4

Can I take videos or photos at the event?

Accepted Answer

No, unless you can completely exclude all other attendees from your photos/videos and only include people with their explicit permission.

Question 5

I wear the hijab, can I remove it?

Accepted Answer

Yes we are going out of our way to obscure any view of attendees so hijabs can be removed. We have a male security guard at the door who will ensure no male can enter the hall.

Question 6

Are you making a profit from this event?

Accepted Answer

No, not at all, this is a not-for-profit event. Even if a small profit was made, it will be automatically transferred to a charity. We currently have costs that have come out of pocket and the ticket sales will recoup these costs so we can break even. All costs are documented in a spreadsheet.

Question 7

Why aren't you allowing young children?

Accepted Answer

Because the majority of events are child focused, and to be honest, mums deserve a break too. We want women to be able to enjoy themselves without the worry of supervising the behaviour and noise of young children.

Question 8

If you're not making a profit, why are you doing this? What do you get out of it?

Accepted Answer

Nothing, apart from bringing the sisterhood of Islam together and building friendships and bonds. Many women are new to Edinburgh/new to Islam and don't have family here. We want to help those who feel lonely make friends.

Question 9

Do I have to book a ticket for my children aged 10+?

Accepted Answer

Yes every attendee, apart from babies must have a ticket. These will be checked at the door on the guest list.
