Torridon is home to some of Scotland's most magnificent mountains, set in a remote landscape that is guaranteed to take your breath away. Rising up majestically between Loch Maree and Loch Torridon, the big three mountain ranges are Liathach, Beinn Eighe and Beinn Alligin, each with two Munro summits.
All of these are incredibly old – the Torridonian sandstone that forms their bedrock dates back 750 million years!
It's a tall order to complete a traverse of either of these ancient mountains, Beinn Eighe or Beinn Alligin, but with a Girls on Hills guide, you can now summit both in a single challenging weekend! Our professional mountain running guides will show you the way and keep you safe on this big mountain running adventure...
The planned itinerary* is as follows:
Saturday: Beinn Eighe (west summits) 18km, 1120m (Munros Ruadh-Stac Mòr and Spidean Coire nan Clach). Est 7-10hrs
Sunday: Beinn Alligin 11km, 1190m (Munros Sgùrr Mòr and Tom na Gruagaich). Est 6-8hrs.
Running over these two Torridonian giants gives two different challenges; while Beinn Eighe is popular, it's huge bulk makes the climb a strenuous effort. But all is rewarded with a visit to Coire Mhic Fhearchair on the way down; the most stunning of all Torridon's dramatic corries.
Beinn Alligin is more technical but a shorter day out. It's name translates to 'the Mountain of Beauty' or 'Jewelled Mountain' - and it is more than worthy. Enjoy an incredible panorama on a traverse of the Horns of Alligin, which offers some fantastic grade-1 scrambling to keep you on your toes!

What if I can't manage it?
These are chunky mountains! You will need a good level hill fitness and stamina, plus prior experience of fell-running. But fear not - we won't be running fast and will be doing plenty of walking as part of our day. You don't need to be a speedy runner but should be able to keep plodding for up to 10hrs! Please don't be afraid to join us and give it a try...
