Tree Painting and Sketching Workshop with Artist Diana Green

Diana is running two elements to the day; a morning workshop of tree sketching and an afternoon workshop on painting a woodland scene. You can book onto one workshop element or both by selecting the morning, afternoon or full day ticket options.

If you choose to attend the full day, please bring your own lunch with you (there will be hot drinks available at the hostel and a microwave to heat food up in).

You can also book an overnight stay at Shining Cliff hostel on the night of the 19th and 20th May to give yourself a wonderful self-care experience of woodland immersion for just £20 per night.

Workshop Outline

• In the morning Diana will guide you through the process of sketching a tree in pencil using a guide, using various methods of shading and different pencils to achieve different results.
• From basic sketching to capture a feeling of place, to shape sketching for a painting, to doing a more detailed drawing as a stand-alone piece.
• In the afternoon Diana will guide you through painting a loose woodland scene using watercolours. We will practice first using a photo reference and then weather permitting, we will go out into the woods to paint from life.
• All materials are provided and the workshops are suitable for all levels.

Diana Green is an artist who's work focusses on trees and their landscapes, primarily using her own handmade paints and inks created using rocks, soils and natural materials gathered from her walks. Location: The hostel is located off-road in the heart of Shining Cliff woods near Ambergate in Derbyshire, and is only accessible by foot along uneven and sloping woodland footpaths. The hostel car park is a half mile walk from the hostel along a woodland footpath.

Meeting point: The morning session will start by meeting at Shining Cliff hostel ready to commence at 1030. The afternoon session will start at 1:30pm at Shining Cliff hostel. Please allow at least 10 minutes to walk to the hostel from the woodland car park. Kate from the hostel will be meet you as you arrive at the car park to direct you to the hostel. Directions to the woodland car park and hostel are included in your booking confirmation details, please do read them as google and sat nav will take you to the wrong area of the woodland.

It is possible to extend your experience in this stunning woodland by booking a bed at the hostel for just £20 per night. To book your room please reply 'yes' to the overnight option in the booking questions and Kate will get in touch with you to arrange payment and send your Welcome Pack.

The hostel has 5 bedrooms available, all with bunk beds. You can request a room to yourself, or if you are booking with friends, there are 2-bed, 4-bed and 6-bed rooms available to book.

The hostel is fully heated, has 3 bathrooms with showers, a fully equiped self-catering kitchen, lounge and dining room.

Parking

• Shining Cliff Centre CIC accepts no responsibility for guests using the private woodland car park area or the track that accesses the parking area from Jackass Lane.

Refunds

• If you need to cancel your place on the workshop, the ticket price will be refunded if it is more than 14 days before the workshop, but if it is 14 days or fewer, the ticket price (minus Eventbrite fees) will not be refunded unless your place is filled.

Cancellations

• In the event of Shining Cliff Centre CIC cancelling the workshop you will be offered an alternative date or the price of your ticket will be fully refunded.
• We need to have a minimum of 8 participants to afford to run this workshop. If there are less than 8 participants we will fully refund your ticket price.

A Woodland Setting

• The workshop is based at Shining Cliff hostel, an off-road independent hostel.
• Directions to find the woodland car park will be provided on booking, please read the directions as google or sat nav do not take you to the right part of the woodland.
• There is a public footpath from the woodland car park to the hostel. It can be muddy, is uneven with rocks and tree roots, and has steep sections. Please ensure you have suitable footwear.
• The workshop can involve being out in the woodland, please ensure you have plenty of layers to stay warm and comfortable, plus waterproof clothing.
