Dress up in your 1940s themed clothes and get involved as we look back to the end of the Second World War, May 1945.

Bring a picnic and relax in the sunshine with friends and family

Claim your ration of tea and a sweet treat from the WVS Wagon. Vouchers will be issued on arrival and on presentation of your e-ticket.

Street style entertainment throughout the afternoon with Peggy Skivvy and Bernard the handyman!

Music from the fantastic ‘Ukeladies’

Stirrup pump at the ready...Help the ARP Warden douse the ‘Fire on Smart Street’ at the UXB display!

Traditional toys and games - have a go at skipping, hop-scotch or hoopla!

The Museum gallery will be open to view until 4pm

Hot food and drinks available to purchase from ‘Sipz & Bitez’, street food concession. Cash and card accepted.

Well behaved dog owners are invited to attend with their pet kept on a lead. Bring your own dog treats if you are not sharing the picnic!

Free parking on-site.

Bus from Tamworth and Lichfield stops outside the museum.

Frequently asked questions

Are dogs allowed?

Dogs are permitted and are to be kept on a lead at all times. Please clean up after your dog and take the dog mess back home to dispose of as the museum does not have a dog poo bin. It is unfair to expect museum volunteers to clean up after your dog. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Do carers have to pay?

If you are a carer and attending with a looked after person please buy a ticket to claim your ration of a drink and a sweet treat from the WVS canteen. If you do not require a ration, admission is free of charge along with a paid for looked after person.

What happens if it rains?

This is an outdoor event and will continue unless the management decide to cancel due to severe weather conditions (MET Office warnings etc). The event would be postposed to another date.

Is the museum open to general visitors on 10th May?

The museum site will be closed to general visitors on 10th May. 2025. Anyone wishing to visit will need to buy a ticket for the event and access is between 12noon and 4pm only.

Are Gift Aid repeat tickets valid at this event?

No. Gift Aid repeat visit tickets are not valid on special event days. Please purchase a ticket for this event if you are planning to visit on 10th May 2025.
