Is this workshop right for me?

If you're new to voice over and have no clue where to start, this is the right course for you. We will cover the basics of the equipment needed for recording, the types of work out there, how to create stand-out reels and how to audition for a variety of genres, including video games and audiobooks.

What will I come away with at the end of the day?

You will have a whole toolkit of skills to help you elevate your voice work. There will be handouts (so many handouts!) with voice work exercises, industry resources and a summary of all we've covered for you to refer to as you make your way in the industry.

What should I bring?

Wear comfortable clothes as this workshop will be a mixture of theory and practical exercises. Bring water and something to write on - notepad, iPad etc. There's a tea and coffee station and snacks will be provided. There are places nearby to buy lunch and a microwave and fridge are on-site as well.

How will the workshop be formatted?

The morning will be theory-based, looking at what it is to be a voice actor, what work is available, how to set up a home studio for different budgets and how to create stand-out reels. The afternoon will be practical, with a physical and vocal warm up followed by character and audition exercises.

Who is running the course?

Accepted Answer

The course is run by Jess Nesling who has a decade of experience in the industry. Credits include Viconia DeVir in Baldur's Gate III and The Female Psyker Savant in Warhammer: Darktide 40K. She has worked in commercials, corporate work, narrated audiobooks and dubbed for film. You're in safe hands!

This workshop will be held at the Bare Arms HQ, near Pimlico and Victoria stations. Please note: there is a wall of weapons at the venue, in case anyone finds this unsettling. Please do not touch any of the weapons on-site.  Thank you for your co-operation.
