Welcome to the Wild Weekend Bioblitz!
Date: 10th and 11th May 2025
Location: Park House Farm , Torpenhow . CA7 1JZ
Join Bothel Community Wildlife Group and the Lee family for a fun-filled weekend exploring the biodiversity of Park House! Famous for its award winning cheeses and Gelato this organic regenerative dairy farm is better known as The Torpenhow Cheese farm .
Our event includes guided nature walks, recording workshops, and interactive activities for all ages led by experts and enthusiasts .
This is a great opportunity to connect with nature and learn more about the environment and how nature friendly farming can boost biodiversity.
We start 10.30 Saturday with welcome and registration .
11am Cumbria Biodiversity Data Centre will hold a recording workshop 12 noon Official start . Throughout the afternoon experts will lead walks , talks and identification worshops . An indoor venue will be the hub , further examinations will take place under microscopes , camera trap footage will be examined .Every species will be recorded .
8.30pm Cumbria Bat Group will give an educational talk before going out in search of Bats 🦇. Recording will continue for the very keen throughout the night .
Sunday 4am will be a guided dawn chorus walk
7am - 9am breakfast
9am - 10 am registration
10am -12 moth trap reveal , mammal trap reveal , more species recording . Activitys for youth groups .
Frequently asked questions
Due to the size of the event parking will be in an agricultural field . There will be a short walk to the main farm recording Hub .
We are sorry but this is a working dairy farm so we will not be allowing dogs .
Please bring sturdy footwear or wellies . For Bio security we ask they be cleaned prior to attending to prevent the spread of diseases . Clothes for every eventuality . binoculars and note pad and pen would be helpful . your own mug would be much appreciated if you plan to purchase refreshments.
Yes please let us know if you wish to camp as we are able to accommodate a limited number of tents . There will be a charge of £10 per night per tent . This will allow the opportunity to take part in the night time surveys and dawn chorus walk
The L al Yan coffee van will be attending selling excellent refreshments . The Lee girls will be selling soup and sandwiches dinner time Saturday , with various scones , cakes and biscuits . If you require Saturday evening food please advice on booking
This is an educational event . As a wildlife group we are committed to educating and giving the opportunity to others to learn how to boost biodiversity. We are so greatful that the Lee family also share this ethos so there is no charge . Donations can be made so we can buy materials for bird boxes
Yes there are toilets on site
Please make sure you register your arrival . We will require everyone in attendance to sign in to cover our risk assessment
