About this event

  • Event lasts 4 hours

This event has been organised by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales’ Swansea group as part of Swansea’s City Nature Challenge 2025.

The aim is to discover and record as many species as we can - and have fun learning a lot along the way!

We'll be recording species found on the iNaturalist app, so upload the app and bring your mobile phone if you have one - or the leaders will record your finds for you.

This exceptional wood includes ancient woodland and a pond and is home to many breeding birds including owls and sparrowhawks. Several species of butterfly are found there and the fallen timber is important for invertebrates, mosses, lichen and fungi, so lots to see.

Unfortunately, due to illness, Steve Dixon is no longer available to lead this walk so Liam Olds has kindly stepped in. In addition to being Buglife Conservation Officer, Liam is a freelance entomologist and runs the Colliery Spoil Biodiversity Initiative which he established in 2015.

There’ll be a break during the event so please bring your own drinks and lunch. Car sharing is encouraged as parking is limited. Please dress according to the weather forecast for the day.

We ask for at least £1 per adult towards Trust funds - in cash or by bank card.

Organized by

We organise monthly - and sometimes more frequent - wildlife events. In winter we invite experts to give us illustrated talks at St Hilary's Church Community Hall, Killay, Swansea. We offer teas, coffees and biscuits in advance of our talks. We organise outdoor walks, led by wildlife experts in the Spring and Summer. We request a minimum donation of £1 per adult to help cover our costs.

We welcome your bookings via Eventbrite but please, please, remember to cancel via Eventbrite if you can't make it so that your place can go to someone else.
