About this event

Workshops are the quickest and most thorough, tried and tested way to become a better poet - no doubt.

Word Space and Waterstones are collaborating on a new series of poetry writing sessions!

Even more intimate and chilled than the usual open mic events, Word Space workshops are a cosy and more detailed dive into our poems.

This is one for anyone who wants to improve and take their poetry and writing practice to the next step - that's right, anyone : no level of writing experience necessary. The only requirement is an interest in learning and growing as a writer... and a pen.

The sessions is 50% guided, prompted writing formed from selected readings aimed at building your craft skills and 50% 'workshopping' - reading each other's poems critically, analysing and discussing technique and pushing each other creatively with suggestions, ideas and different perspectives.

This is a smaller event so tickets will be limited : )

Like all Word Space events, if you want to come but can't due to your financial situation send me a message and we'll sort out a reduced ticket price - no worries. If you are in work right now and doing ok, please donate generously so cheaper tickets for those that need them can keep happening - mutural arty community > capitalism

If you haven't been to Word Space Open Mic events and are wondering what this is all about and who I am:

Frequently asked questions

I'm not an experienced writer or poet - is this for me?

YES! This is a poetry workshop for everyone! No prior experience needed - if you love words, this is for you!

Do I have to bring one of my poems?

No - having people come along and give feedback is just as important. If you're nervous about sharing for the first time, that's absolutely fine and completely normal. Come along and see the vibe and bring one next time : )

Are their tickets on the door?

yes there are! but as the workshops have limited spaces, you're best to message me direct to double-check. You can find me on instagram @wordspacepoems or wordsandspace@gmail.com

Are there opportunities to read and share new work?

Yes! After each activity or prompt we take some time to share some lines or ideas - it's amazing what people can achieve in just a few minutes. Of course, there's no pressure though and what you write can stay locked up in your notebook forever if you prefer
