Overview
This session will provide support and guidance for overseas qualified veterinary professionals intending to work in the UK who have not yet submitted an application to join the RCVS registers.
Who is this Academy Live session for?
This Academy session is for:
- Veterinary surgeons who have not yet submitted an intention to sit application
- Veterinary nurses who have not yet submitted the ‘Evaluation of Qualifications for veterinary nurses educated outside the United Kingdom’ (form A)
- Employers intending on employing someone who qualified overseas and recruitment agencies
Learning outcomes
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Access and navigate the RCVS Academy to be able to complete the ‘Working in the UK’ courses
- Identify the appropriate application route and process
- Explore the possible outcomes of an application
Session speakers
Victoria Hedges RVN, RCVS VN Examinations Quality Lead
Victoria qualified as veterinary nurse in 1995. She joined the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) in 2002. Since 2008, Victoria has played a pivotal role in overseeing the registration of over 1,000 veterinary nurses educated outside the UK, gaining extensive knowledge of veterinary nursing education from all over the world. In her current role, she leads the team responsible for delivering the Pre-registration examinations, ensuring high standards in this aspect of the registration process.
Claire Hobson RVN, RCVS Examinations Manager
Claire qualified as a RVN in 2004 and is currently the Examinations Manager at the RCVS. Her primary responsibility is managing the Statutory Membership Examination (SME) and the SME candidates. Prior to joining the RCVS Claire worked in clinical practice for 10 years and most recently in veterinary education for 10 years. Claire holds a keen interest in OSCEs.

Please note that this session is not applicable to veterinary surgeons who hold recognised qualifications and are therefore exempt from sitting the Statutory Membership Examination (SME).
