About this event

  • Event lasts 45 minutes

At General Management level, we have a lot of knowledge and experience, but it’s still not always easy to get things done effectively. We have less control than we did at earlier stages in our career and fewer direct levers to pull to get the outcomes we want.

We may also complete a programme to learn new skills, or read an inspiring business book but it’s not always easy to put into action.

This can be due to a variety of reasons. Often, when we get to a certain level of seniority:

  • It’s not so much about cramming our brain with more information (although some of this is useful to stay up to date), but it’s about how we implement it that makes the difference.
  • It's about learning the skills to recognise the situation (whether it be with peers, senior colleagues, customers, our team) and adjust the way we implement our skills to suit
  • It's about gaining broader perspective and introducing a range of approaches to our toolkit
  • Gaining confidence stepping into the unknown and not knowing ‘the answer’ as situations become more complex
  • Becoming more confident managing (and reducing) socio-political noise and ‘politics’ within the organisation. How many managers do you know that avoid ‘organisational politics’? At GM level and above, you do so at your peril!

Agenda:

  • Overview of Cranfield and CED,
  • Challenges facing general managers,
  • You know what to do, why is it so hard to put into action? – Paula Broadbent,
  • The General Management Programme overview,
  • Q&A and reflections.

This is a free event where you can discuss with our team how Cranfield can help you achieve your aims.

  • Managers who need to develop a wider business perspective,
