Sexual health and relationships are key parts of young peoples lives. At Gloucestershire Youth Support Team we believe that all practitioners should have the confidence to discuss these issues with young people and have the knowledge to support them and be able to sign post to other services that offer specialist support.
Relationship and Sex Education Training (ReSET) is available to all professionals working with young people and their families in Gloucestershire and offers ideas and information of how to explore issues of relationships and sex education with young people. it is divided into two levels:
Level 1 is an interactive one day workshop that covers:
- Law and Policy
- Young people and relationships
- Engaging young people in SRE
- Local services for young people
Level 2 is split into three half day workshops which cover:
- Sexuality -
- Defines sexuality
- Provides an awareness of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) young people and how to support them
- Provides an awareness of the law and policy as it relates to LGBT
- Explores what services are available to support young people and professionals
- Teenage Pregnancy and working with Young Parents -
- Explores issues that relate to teenage pregnancy
- Enables practitioners to develop the confidence and skills in working with young people who are pregnant or young parents
- Provide knowledge of existing local and national support services
- Outlines current financial support for young parents
- Sexual Health and Learning Disabilities -
- Explores differences between Learning Difficulties and Disabilities
- Provides an awareness of consent as it relates to the Mental Capacity Act
- Provides knowledge of relationships and sex as it relates to young people
- Provides awareness of legislation as it relates to young people
- Explores what services are available for signposting
All practitioners need to have done Level 1 before they are able to do any of the Level 2 modules. Practitioners do not need to complete all Level 2 modules.
