Barn Drift and The Hangar
The Hangar at Barn Drift, on our family farm was built by my grandfather Hubert Blount, for his Auster aircraft in 1949. It is now houses small private events for local families and friends as well as those visiting. The building is virtually unchanged since the late 40's, with the recent addition of shepherd-hut loos outside, electric Aga inside ~ and the 1940s Italian chandelier that cried out to be brought in. Over the years lunch parties, picnics, dances and dinners have been hosted at the Hangar. As well as book launches, charity events and nature talks, camping parties, wreath making, weddings, drinks parties, bands performed and later this year an opera hosted by Wild Arts. Sometimes it is used as an addition to Barn Drift, our large family holiday home to rent just a few yards away and sometimes it is used in isolation. I grew up in Cley and am a garden designer, managing the family farm, Barn Drift and the Hangar. We have four sons and are all always on the North Norfolk coast, if not in person in spirit and frequently take out our beloved old Norfolk crab boat Adrift.
