Belfast Green Badge Tour Guide, Dr Tom Thorpe

I am a Green Badge Belfast tour guide, public historian, local resident and podcaster.

Originally from London, I’ve lived in Belfast since 2014.

I completed my Belfast Green Badge in November 2021. Since then, I have been leading tours and am a member of the Northern Ireland Tourist Guide Association.

I also have a PhD from King’s College London that explored the history of the morale, cohesion and motivation of British soldiers during the First World War.

Since being in Northern Ireland, I have also been involved in a range of local social and medical history projects such as the Ulster University’s (UU) Belfast Epidemic medical history learning resource, the Queen’s University Belfast (QUB) Living Legacies programme and the Men Behind the Glass Project at Campbell College Belfast. I am also an Honorary Research Associate at UU and a Tutor on the QUB Open Learning programme.

Added to this, I’m also an avid podcaster, hosting and producing three history podcasts. These are the Western Front Association’s weekly Mentioned in Dispatches Podcast, the Epidemic Belfast podcast, and Combat Morale podcast.
