Friends of Ocklynge Cemetery

‘The Friends of Ocklynge Cemetery’ was established in 2022 by 3 local historians - Kevin Gordon, Sue Dixon & Shirley Moth. The Committee now has four members - Kevin, Shirley, Danielle Wilson and Jo Barber.

This will be a non-political group with the following aims:

1) To respect both the historic and the environmental aspects of the cemetery.

2) Liaise with the Council regarding all aspects of the cemetery.

3) Identifying notable graves.

4) Conducting historic research into the people buried there.

5) Identifying important aspects of the flora and fauna in the cemetery.

6) Liaising with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.

7) Identifying potential problems and reporting them to the council.

8) Assisting the public in identifying the location of graves.

9) Liaising with Heritage Eastbourne and local environmental and history groups.

10) Providing guided tours of the cemetery.

11) Helping to make the cemetery a more pleasant place for the public to visit
