Saskia started the MEND HOUSE in 2020 with a vision to create a community of likeminded people who believe that 'Repair beats Replace'. MEND HOUSE is a growing network of repairers, united by a common goal to champion repair and reuse in a wasteful society.
MEND HOUSE offers garment/textile repair services, specialising in visible mending. Visible mending is a way of celebrating the repair and giving a second life to a loved object, in this case a garment. This idea is one that can be mimicked in any product in need of repair. Specialist repairers from all creative fields can do this and MEND HOUSE seeks to create a space where these craftsmen can provide a service and allows consumers to take a step back from a ‘want now, buy now’ led society. It’s also a space where craftsmen can pass on knowledge and inspire others to do the same and to make these skills part of everyday living, which is increasingly important as the world becomes more and more fragile. The idea that you can connect people together through mending and learning is how the workshops started, and we will continue creating a place for conversations, and creative exchange through these workshops.
We are starting to grow our jewellery repair services and currently offer specific repairs, which can be found on our website.
